History of Dorrigo Skywalk
Dorrigo National Park was gazetted in 1967 to protect remnant subtropical rainforest on the Dorrigo Plateau and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, representing ancient rainforests dating back millions of years. The Dorrigo Skywalk was constructed to provide low-impact canopy access and opened adjacent to the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to support education and ecotourism while protecting the forest floor.
Culture & Context
The park lies on Gumbaynggirr Country and the rainforest holds cultural significance for the Gumbaynggirr people. The area is recognised for its natural heritage value as part of the Gondwana World Heritage rainforests and is a focus for environmental education and conservation interpretation at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre.
