History of Den Chai Railway Station
Den Chai Railway Station opened in 1909-1912 during the northward extension of the Northern Line under the State Railway of Thailand. It was built as a key intermediate station between Uttaradit and Lampang and became the junction for the branch line to Sawankhalok (opened 1909). The station retains early 20th-century railway architecture and has long served as the railhead for Phrae Province before the line continued to Chiang Mai in 1922.
Culture & Context
The station serves as the principal railway gateway to Phrae Province and a landmark of Den Chai town. Its heritage building and preserved locomotive reflect the importance of rail transport in northern Thailand's development and remain a focal point for local travel and community connectivity.
