About Delisser Sandhills
Delisser Sandhills are expansive coastal sand dunes located immediately south of Eucla in the Shire of Dundas, Western Australia, on the edge of the Great Australian Bight. Part of the Eucla National Park area, the dunes are notable for their large, mobile white sands that have partially buried the historic Eucla Telegraph Station. The site offers stark desert-meets-ocean scenery and is a distinctive landmark along the Eyre Highway Nullarbor crossing.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect vast, windswept white sand dunes rising from the coastline near Eucla, with open views over the Great Australian Bight and the surrounding Nullarbor plain. The landscape is largely natural and undeveloped, with soft sand, dune crests and blowouts. Access is via sandy tracks requiring 4WD. There are no built structures on the dunes themselves, but the nearby ruins of the Eucla Telegraph Station, partially engulfed by sand, can be viewed. The area is quiet, exposed and suited to sightseeing and photography.

History of Delisser Sandhills
The dunes are closely associated with the Eucla Telegraph Station (1877), part of the East-West Telegraph line linking Western Australia to the eastern colonies. Shifting sands from the Delisser Sandhills gradually engulfed the station, leading to its abandonment in the 1920s. The ruins remain as a heritage landmark illustrating the challenges of settlement on the Nullarbor.
Culture & Context
The Eucla area lies within the traditional lands of the Mirning people, for whom the coastal dunes and Bight coastline hold cultural significance. The landscape is valued for its natural heritage as part of the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight coastal system.
