History of Dainkund Peak
The name Dainkund literally means 'The pond of witch/witches' according to local folklore. According to legend, villagers established the Kali temple at the peak to free the area from witches. The Pohlani Mata Temple has historic significance and contains no idol except for a trident inside the temple premises.
Culture & Context
Dainkund is culturally significant as the site of the Pohlani Mata Temple, a Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali. The peak is also known as 'Singing Hills' because the cold breeze passing through the trees creates a melody. The Indian Air Force maintains a relay station at the summit, which serves as an important communication facility.
