History of Crystal Gallery Udaipur
The crystal collection was ordered in 1877 by Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar from the Birmingham firm F. & C. Osler & Co. in England. The Maharana died in 1884 before the shipment could be fully used, and much of the crystal remained packed and stored for over a century. The collection was later restored and opened as the Crystal Gallery in 1994 in Fateh Prakash Palace by Shri Arvind Singh Mewar.
Culture & Context
The gallery showcases the royal lifestyle and appreciation for European craftsmanship during the Mewar period, reflecting 19th-century cultural exchange and luxury. It preserves rare crystal artistry and is considered an important heritage attraction within the City Palace Complex.
