Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a large, long-established night market located on Chang Khlan Road in Chang Khlan Sub-district, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai. Stretching about one kilometer between Tha Phae Road and Sridonchai Road, it is known for handicrafts, clothing, souvenirs, and street food. Operating nightly, it is one of Chiang Mai's most visited shopping and evening leisure areas for tourists and locals.

Visitors can expect a long, open-air market along Chang Khlan Road and inside covered arcade buildings such as Kalare and Anusarn Market. Stalls line both sides of the road selling handicrafts, textiles, hill-tribe products, leather goods, artwork, and souvenirs. The area includes extensive street-food stalls, small restaurants, and live music. The setting is urban and flat, illuminated at night, with dense crowds in the evening and a mix of indoor and outdoor shopping areas to explore.

The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar developed from the 1960s-1970s as a trading area for handicrafts produced by northern hill-tribe communities and local artisans. It grew along Chang Khlan Road, historically a commercial area near the Ping River, and expanded with the addition of covered markets such as Kalare and Anusarn, becoming a central hub for souvenir and craft trade in Chiang Mai.

The bazaar showcases northern Thai and Lanna cultural products including hand-woven textiles, woodcarvings, silverware, lacquerware, and hill-tribe embroidery. It serves as a commercial and cultural meeting point where visitors can experience local crafts, cuisine, and evening market traditions characteristic of Chiang Mai.
