About Cape du Couedic Lighthouse
Cape du Couedic Lighthouse is a historic coastal lighthouse at the southwestern tip of Kangaroo Island within Flinders Chase National Park, South Australia. Constructed from local limestone between 1906 and 1909 and first exhibited in 1909, it was built to guide shipping along the island's rugged southern coastline. The white tower, keepers' cottages and associated buildings stand above dramatic cliffs overlooking the Southern Ocean and are heritage-listed.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an exposed coastal setting with a white limestone lighthouse tower, former keepers' cottages and store buildings set on high cliffs above the Southern Ocean. The lighthouse exterior can be viewed from the surrounding grounds; the tower interior is generally closed to the public. Sealed and unsealed roads lead to a car park with short walks, interpretive signs and viewpoints. The site is within Flinders Chase National Park, close to the Admirals Arch boardwalk and coastal scenery.
