About Canberra Glassworks
Canberra Glassworks is Australia's largest dedicated glass art centre located in the heritage-listed Kingston Power House on Wentworth Avenue, Kingston, Canberra. Opened in 2007, it occupies Canberra's first permanent public building constructed 1913-1915, which supplied electricity to the city until 1957. The centre features working hotshops, artist studios, galleries and exhibitions showcasing contemporary Australian glass art with live demonstrations and retail sales.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a working glass art centre inside the historic Kingston Power House with industrial brick architecture and large internal spaces. The main experience is viewing live glassblowing in the hotshop from a public gallery, exploring contemporary glass exhibitions in two gallery spaces, observing artists at work in rented studios, and browsing the retail shop. The site is on the Kingston Foreshore near Lake Burley Griffin with indoor viewing areas and interpretive displays about the building's history.
