Cam Thanh Coconut Village

Cam Thanh Coconut Village is a water coconut palm forest and fishing village in Cam Thanh Commune, Hoi An, Da Nang, Vietnam, about 5 km southeast of Hoi An Ancient Town along the Thu Bon River. Centered on the 7-hectare Bay Mau nipa palm forest, it is known for traditional round basket boat rides, fishing demonstrations and rural village life. The palm forest historically provided shelter during wartime and now serves as an ecotourism site showcasing local aquatic culture.

Visitors can expect a low-lying estuarine landscape of dense nipa palm water coconut forest crisscrossed by waterways of the Thu Bon River. The main experience is a ride in traditional round basket boats (thung chai) paddled by local boatmen through palm-lined canals, with demonstrations of fishing techniques, net casting, crab fishing and boat spinning performances. Small hamlets, wooden bridges and local houses surround the forest, with opportunities to observe rural fishing village life and take photos.

The Bay Mau nipa palm forest was planted and expanded as a source of materials and shelter, and served as a shelter and base for local forces during wartime. After the war, the forest was preserved and developed as a community-based ecotourism village showcasing traditional fishing and palm-related livelihoods of Cam Thanh Commune.

Represents the traditional fishing and aquaculture culture of the Thu Bon estuary, with nipa palm thatching, basket boat craftsmanship, and fishing techniques passed down in Cam Thanh village. The site demonstrates the close relationship between local community life and the water coconut mangrove ecosystem.
