History of Bundeena
Bundeena is on Dharawal Country. The Jibbon Head area contains significant Aboriginal rock engravings. European settlement began in the 1880s as a small coastal village, with early access by boat across Port Hacking. Its development has been closely linked to the establishment of the Royal National Park in 1879, Australia's first national park, which surrounds the village.
Culture & Context
The area holds cultural significance for the Dharawal people, with the Jibbon Head engravings representing an important Aboriginal heritage site. Today Bundeena maintains a small coastal village culture focused on beach life, arts, and nature-based recreation as a gateway community to the Royal National Park.
