About Bunaken National Marine Park
Bunaken National Marine Park is a marine national park located off the coast of Manado in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Established in 1991, it covers about 890 square kilometers including five islands: Bunaken, Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen. The park is renowned for its steep coral walls, exceptional marine biodiversity with over 390 coral species and diverse reef fish, and clear waters that make it one of Indonesia's premier scuba diving and snorkeling destinations.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a marine park accessible only by boat from Manado, centered on five islands surrounded by clear tropical waters. The main experience is underwater exploration along dramatic vertical coral walls, reef slopes and shallow coral gardens. Visitors can snorkel or scuba dive to see diverse corals, reef fish, sea turtles and occasional dolphins, relax on small white-sand beaches, visit fishing villages on Bunaken Island, and take guided boat tours between islands with views of the conical Manado Tua volcano.
