History of Bright
Originally known as Morse's Creek, Bright developed during the Victorian gold rush in the late 1850s and 1860s after gold was discovered along the Ovens River and tributaries. It became a commercial and administrative centre for the Ovens goldfields, with orchards, timber and later tourism supporting the town after mining declined. Historic buildings and the Bright Museum reflect this gold-era heritage.
