History of Bridestowe Lavender Estate
Established in 1921 by English perfumer Charles Denny and later developed by farmer William Harvey who imported Lavandula angustifolia seeds from the French Alps. Originally planted at Lilydale, the farm was relocated to Nabowla in 1921-1922 due to more suitable climate and soils. It has operated continuously for over 100 years and remains a pioneering lavender cultivation site in Australia.
Culture & Context
Recognised as an iconic Tasmanian agri-tourism attraction and a significant example of early 20th-century introduced crop cultivation. The estate contributes to Tasmania's identity for clean, premium produce and is widely featured in state tourism promotion for its seasonal landscape and lavender product heritage.
