History of Brahmavart Ghat
Brahmavart Ghat is traditionally associated with Lord Brahma and is regarded as the place where creation began. Bithoor is also linked to Sage Valmiki's ashram where Sita is believed to have stayed and where Lav and Kush were born. In the 18th-19th century, Bithoor was the residence of Peshwa Baji Rao II and his adopted son Nana Sahib, making the ghat and town historically associated with the Maratha Peshwa period.
Culture & Context
The ghat is a significant Hindu pilgrimage centre on the Ganges. Pilgrims take holy dips, especially on Kartik Purnima and during other auspicious bathing festivals. Daily worship, Ganga Aarti and rituals at the Brahma Khunti and Shiva temples reflect its religious importance as a centre for prayer and ancestral rites.
