History of Brahmapureeswarar Temple
The temple is attributed to the early Chola period with later contributions from the Pandyas and subsequent dynasties. Tradition associates the site with Brahma performing penance and worshipping Shiva here to absolve pride and regain his role as creator, giving the deity the name Brahmapureeswarar.
