History of Brahmani Mata Temple
The temple stands on the remnants of the old Kalloor Fort, which was constructed in three phases before the Middle Ages. According to legend, thousands of years ago, Bhojraj Singh of Gigasar discovered idols of Maa Brahmani, Saraswati, and Kali emerging from the ground after receiving divine instructions in a dream. The current temples were constructed by descendants of Bhojraj Singh, with worship continuing through generations.
Culture & Context
The temple serves as the kuladevi (family deity) for the Tard Jaats community of Jasrasar and the Prajapati community in Gujarat. It reflects Jain civilization influences in its sculptures. Twice yearly during Navratri, the temple hosts massive fairs where 50,000 to 200,000 devotees participate in padayatras (foot pilgrimages) and offer prayers.
