About Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is one of Singapore's largest urban parks, spanning 62 hectares between Bishan and Ang Mo Kio in central Singapore. Originally opened in 1988, it was extensively redeveloped in 2012 under the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme. The park is notable for the naturalisation of a 3 km concrete canal into a meandering Kallang River, creating a riverine park with Pond Gardens, lush lawns and biodiversity habitats.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a large, open urban park centred on a naturalized meandering Kallang River with gently sloping grassy banks, three main ponds at Pond Gardens, and extensive lawns. The park offers paved walking and cycling paths, a 1.2 km riverside promenade, adventure playgrounds, fitness corners, a dedicated Dog Run, and riverside galleries and bridges. The environment is open and parkland with mature trees, lotus ponds, and wildlife such as herons and dragonflies. History of Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Originally developed as Bishan Park and opened in 1988, the park was built on former cemetery land. Between 2009 and 2012, it underwent a major redevelopment as a flagship project of the PUB Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme in collaboration with NParks. The project naturalized a 2.7-3 km concrete drainage channel of the Kallang River into a natural meandering river, creating a new model for urban waterway restoration in Singapore. The revamped park reopened on 17 March 2012.
Culture & Context
The park serves as a major community green space for residents of Bishan and Ang Mo Kio, hosting community events, recreational activities and serving as an example of sustainable urban park design integrating drainage, recreation and biodiversity.
