History of Bidadari Park
The park occupies the former Bidadari Cemetery, which served Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Sinhalese communities from 1908 to 1972. The site also recalls the Alkaff Gardens, a Japanese-style garden built by the Alkaff family in the 1930s. Heritage elements including the Heritage Walk and retained memorial materials commemorate the cemetery history.
