History of Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary
Notified as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 2001, Bhoramdeo Sanctuary was created to protect the forests of the Maikal Hills and to secure the vital Kanha-Achanakmar tiger corridor connecting Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh with Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary in Chhattisgarh.
Culture & Context
The sanctuary surrounds the Bhoramdeo Temple complex, an 11th-century Nagara-style temple dedicated to Shiva, often called the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh. The surrounding forests are traditionally inhabited by Baiga and Gond tribal communities.
