About Bhitarkanika Mangrove Boat Trails
Bhitarkanika Mangrove Boat Trails are guided boat routes through the tidal creeks and estuaries of Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district, Odisha. Located at the confluence of the Brahmani and Baitarani rivers, the trails traverse India's second-largest mangrove ecosystem. Notable for dense mangroves, saltwater crocodiles and diverse birdlife, the boat trails provide the primary means to explore the sanctuary's core areas, islands and waterways inaccessible by road.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect motorized boat rides through narrow mangrove-lined creeks, rivers and estuaries starting from jetties at Khola, Gupti or Dangamal. The setting is a dense tidal mangrove forest with mudflats, creeks and islands. Visitors can see saltwater crocodiles basking on banks, spotted deer, monitor lizards, kingfishers, herons and migratory birds, and visit watchtowers and forest rest house areas. Boats are operated by forest department-licensed operators with guides and follow fixed routes within the sanctuary.
