About Bayyo Rice Terraces
Bayyo Rice Terraces are stone-walled agricultural terraces located in Barangay Bayyo, south of Bontoc town in Mountain Province, Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. Built and maintained by the Bontok people over generations, the terraces follow steep mountain slopes and are irrigated by mountain springs. Less crowded than nearby Maligcong, they offer a well-preserved example of traditional Ifugao-Bontok rice cultivation and form part of the broader Cordillera rice terrace cultural landscape.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect layered stone-walled rice terraces cascading down steep mountain slopes around Barangay Bayyo. The setting is rural and mountainous, with narrow earthen dikes, irrigation channels, small farm huts, and views of the surrounding Cordillera peaks and valley. Areas visitors can explore include roadside viewpoints and footpaths along terrace edges. The terraces are active farmland, so the appearance changes with the planting cycle from flooded mirrors to green shoots to golden harvest.
