About Bang Tao Beach
Bang Tao Beach is a 6-kilometre sandy beach on the west coast of Phuket in Choeng Thale, Thalang District. It is one of Phuket's longest beaches, forming a wide bay between Surin Beach to the south and Layan Beach to the north. Known for its soft white sand, clear water and calm seas in the dry season, it is fronted by the Laguna Phuket integrated resort complex and luxury hotels, making it a major resort beach destination.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a long, wide stretch of light sand with a gentle slope and open views of the Andaman Sea. The central and southern sections are lined with luxury resorts, restaurants, beach clubs and sun loungers belonging to the Laguna Phuket complex, while the northern end near Layan is quieter. The sea is generally calm and suitable for swimming from November to April, with beach walking, sunbathing, photography and dining available along the shore. History of Bang Tao Beach
The Bang Tao Bay area was formerly a tin mining site with large open-pit mines and lagoons. After mining declined, the degraded land was rehabilitated and redeveloped from the late 1980s into Laguna Phuket, Thailand's first integrated resort complex, which transformed the beach into an international resort destination.
