History of Balmoral Beach
Named after Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the beach was developed as a recreational resort from the late 19th century. The Balmoral Bathers Pavilion, promenade, rotunda and baths were constructed in the late 1920s, with the pavilion opening in 1929, reflecting interwar beach culture in Sydney. The area has long been a popular harbour swimming and picnic destination for Sydney residents.
