History of Bagh-e-Bahu Garden
The garden surrounds Bahu Fort, which is traditionally believed to have been originally built by Raja Bahulochan about 3,000 years ago and later rebuilt and extended by Dogra rulers in the 19th century. The terraced garden itself was developed in recent decades by the Jammu Development Authority to create a recreational space around the fort on the pattern of Mughal gardens.
Culture & Context
Located within the Bahu Fort complex that houses the revered Bawe Wali Mata (Mahakali) Temple, the garden is part of an important cultural and pilgrimage precinct for Jammu. It serves as a major public leisure space for locals and tourists and is often visited together with the temple and fort.
