History of Baan Silapin
Baan Silapin is a wooden house dating back more than 200 years to the early Rattanakosin period. It is one of the last remaining traditional canal-side houses in the Khlong Bang Luang community, which was historically a trading and artisan area. The house was restored by the Rukchart-Trakul family to preserve its architecture and to create a community art space.
Culture & Context
The house serves as a cultural center for the Khlong Bang Luang community, promoting Thai contemporary art and preserving traditional Thai puppetry (Hun Krabok). It functions as a gathering place for local artists and hosts regular puppet performances, art workshops and cultural activities that maintain canal-side community traditions.
