History of Asigarh Fort
Asigarh Fort is traditionally attributed to the Tomara dynasty and later associated with Prithviraj Chauhan in the 12th century. The fort mound has yielded archaeological remains dating from the 7th century onwards. It was subsequently controlled by various powers including the Delhi Sultanate, Mughals and Marathas. In 1798-1801, Irish adventurer George Thomas made Hansi his capital and repaired the fort. Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India have revealed coins, sculptures and a hoard of 58 Jain bronzes, indicating its long historical occupation.
