Arau Royal Gallery

Arau Royal Gallery (Galeri Diraja Arau) is a royal museum in Arau, the royal capital of Perlis, Malaysia. Housed near Istana Arau, it showcases the history, heritage and personal collections of the Perlis royal family, particularly the Raja and Raja Perempuan of Perlis. Exhibits include regalia, photographs, documents, gifts and personal belongings illustrating the state's monarchy and administration.

Visitors can expect a well-curated indoor museum within a former palace-related building in Arau. The gallery displays royal regalia, historical photographs, official documents, costumes, gifts from dignitaries and personal items of the Perlis royal family across several exhibition halls. The setting is formal and educational, with informative panels, display cases and portraits explaining the lineage and role of the Raja Perlis. Surroundings include the Istana Arau compound and town centre.

The gallery preserves and presents the history of the Perlis Sultanate, the only state in Malaysia with the title Raja. It documents the lineage of the Jamalullail family since 1843 and the role of the monarchy in Perlis. The building and collections illustrate the evolution of the royal institution and its connection to Istana Arau, the official palace of the Raja Perlis.

The gallery serves as a cultural repository for Perlis royal traditions, customs and state identity. It highlights the significance of the Raja Perlis as head of state and custodian of Malay customs and Islamic traditions in Perlis, and educates visitors on royal protocol, heritage and community values.
