About Apsley Falls
Apsley Falls is a dramatic two-tier waterfall on the Apsley River in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, about 20 kilometres east of Walcha in northern New South Wales. The falls plunge about 123 metres into the deep Apsley Gorge, offering lookouts and walking tracks. Notable for its gorge scenery, accessible viewpoints and surrounding eucalypt forest, it is a key visitor site on the Oxley Highway between Walcha and Wauchope within a World Heritage-listed wilderness area.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a deep gorge setting with two distinct drops of the Apsley River. Sealed car parks lead to well-maintained lookouts overlooking the upper falls, the main 65-metre drop and the gorge below. Short walking tracks including the Gorge Rim Walk and Falls Walk loop through open eucalypt forest with interpretive signs. The area is day-use only with picnic facilities, expansive views of the Oxley Wild Rivers wilderness and opportunities for photography and birdwatching.
