History of Anna Nagar Tower Park
The park and its 12-storey, 135-foot tower were constructed in 1968 by B. S. Abdur Rahman for the India International Trade Fair (World Trade Fair) held in Chennai. The tower was designed to offer panoramic views of the city and the fairgrounds. After the fair, the grounds were developed into a public park and later handed over to the Greater Chennai Corporation, becoming one of Chennai's prominent planned parks from the late 1960s.
Culture & Context
A major recreational and community gathering space for Anna Nagar and northwest Chennai, the park serves as a daily fitness, leisure and family outing destination and a recognizable landmark of the planned Anna Nagar township developed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in the 1970s.
