About Anjani Mahadev Temple
Anjani Mahadev Temple is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Burwa Village near Solang Valley, Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of approximately 2,800 meters. The temple is renowned for a natural ice Shivalinga that forms each winter when a waterfall freezes into a towering column, earning it the nickname 'Mini Amarnath.' Mythologically, the site is associated with Anjani, mother of Hanuman, who is believed to have performed penance here. Access requires a 1.5–2 km trek from Solang Valley.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a short 1.5–2 km trek through pine forests and streams to reach the open-air temple structure built around a sacred rock and waterfall. During winter months (December–February), the waterfall freezes into a natural ice Shivalinga ranging from 20 to 40 feet in height, which receives continuous natural abhisheka from flowing water. The site features approximately 150–250 steps leading to the sanctum, scenic Himalayan views, and a peaceful atmosphere distinct from the commercial activity of nearby Solang Valley. Horses and ATVs are available for hire to cover the approach trail.

History of Anjani Mahadev Temple
The site's mythological association dates to the Treta Yuga when Anjani, mother of Hanuman, is believed to have performed intense penance here seeking blessings from Lord Shiva. The physical ice lingam phenomenon was discovered in the late 20th century by ascetic Baba Prakash Puri through spiritual vision. A small cave known as Anjani Gufa at the base of the temple steps is associated with both ancient penance traditions and Baba Prakash Puri's meditation.
Culture & Context
The temple symbolizes the divine bond between mother and child in Hindu tradition, commemorating Anjani's devotion that led to Hanuman's birth. It serves as an important pilgrimage destination where devotees tie sacred threads around a holy fig tree believed to mark Hanuman's birthplace. The natural ice lingam is venerated as a manifestation of Shiva, drawing comparisons to the Amarnath shrine and attracting winter pilgrims who trek through snow to witness the phenomenon.
