About Alas Purwo National Park
Alas Purwo National Park is a 434 sq km protected area at the southeastern tip of Java in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. Established in 1992, it preserves one of Java's oldest lowland monsoon forests, mangroves, savanna and pristine beaches. Notable for its biodiversity including banteng, deer, peacocks and turtles, and for surf-famous Plengkung Beach (G-Land), it combines wildlife, coastal landscapes and cultural sites within a remote natural setting.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote, forested coastal park with dense lowland monsoon forest, open savanna at Sadengan, mangrove waterways at Bedul, and long sandy beaches including Triangulasi and Plengkung (G-Land). Wildlife can be observed from the Sadengan observation tower, with banteng, deer, peacocks and sea turtles at nesting beaches. Exploration is via rough unpaved roads and trails, typically by 4WD or motorbike with a guide, with basic facilities, caves, and the Hindu temple Pura Giri Salaka within the forest.
