About Al-Hussain Mosque
Al-Hussain Mosque, also known as the Floating Mosque of Kuala Perlis, is a modern mosque located on the waterfront at Kuala Perlis in Perlis, Malaysia's northernmost state. Built over the Strait of Malacca near the Kuala Perlis Jetty, it appears to float at high tide. Notable for its contemporary Middle Eastern-inspired architecture, colorful lighting at night, and scenic sea views, it serves as both a place of worship and a prominent visitor landmark in Perlis.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a modern mosque built on stilts over the sea at Kuala Perlis, near the ferry jetty to Langkawi. At high tide the structure appears to float on the water, while at low tide the stilts are visible. The exterior features domes, a minaret, and waterfront promenade with views of the Strait of Malacca and fishing boats. Inside is a spacious prayer hall. The area is open and breezy, with good opportunities for photography, especially at sunset and when the mosque is illuminated at night.

History of Al-Hussain Mosque
Constructed in the late 2000s and completed around 2010-2011 as a waqf funded by private donor Tan Sri Mohd Ariffin Yusuf, the mosque was built on reclaimed land extending into the sea to serve the Kuala Perlis fishing community and travellers using the nearby ferry terminal. Its offshore construction creates the distinctive floating illusion at high tide.
Culture & Context
Serves as an important place of worship for the Kuala Perlis Muslim community and as a recognizable waterfront landmark and photographic icon of Perlis. Its location by the main ferry gateway to Langkawi makes it a cultural reference point for visitors to the state.
