About Ahilyabai Ghat
Ahilyabai Ghat is a historic riverfront ghat on the Ganges in central Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, located just south of Dashashwamedh Ghat. Built in 1778 by Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, it is known for its stone steps, Holkar-era architecture and riverside shrines. The ghat is used for bathing, prayers and boat access and forms part of the continuous stretch of Varanasi's sacred ghats.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a stone-stepped ghat leading down to the Ganges with open platforms, small shrines and views of the river and boats. The setting is relatively quieter than the main Dashashwamedh Ghat but still active with pilgrims bathing, priests performing rituals, and boats moored along the edge. The ghat is connected by the continuous walkway along the riverfront, allowing visitors to walk to adjacent ghats and observe daily religious activities and architecture.
